Friends of Lime Kiln Society, aka FOLKS, was formed in 2011. FOLKS is a volunteer group of Islanders dedicated to providing a unique experience for Park visitors through support & development of educational programs and activities related to Lime Kiln Point State Park’s unique location, diverse ecosystems, and historic structures.
Lime Kiln Park needs the extra hands due to the severe staff and budget cuts in recent years. FOLKS receives no funding from Washington State Parks, but is allowed to use the Parks resources so that, in turn, FOLKS is a resource for Washington State Parks & our Park. FOLKS’ strength is our volunteers.
Lime Kiln Point State Park is the jewel of San Juan Island
Lime Kiln State Point Park is one of the most beloved parks in the state. It attracts visitors from all over Washington State, the United States, and the world. This Park’s precious 36 acres and shoreline contain examples of the Salish Sea ecosystem, a historic lighthouse, and lime kiln, as well as premier views of Orca whales many days of the year.
Many Islanders and San Juan Island businesses depend upon this iconic destination for the flow of visitors that ensure seasonal income on San Juan Island. Many locals are regulars at the Park and have given their own private park tours to visiting friends and relatives. From our own experiences, out-of-town visitors leave the Park with a deeper understanding of this special place that we all cherish so deeply.
